Support for CBD Museum at Civic Precinct Welcome News

The Property Council of Australia strongly supports the Museum and Art Gallery of the Northern Territory (MAGNT) proposal for a new museum at the Civic Precinct.

The Property Council of Australia’s Northern Territory Executive Director Ruth Palmer said that the area earmarked for this development is an absolute no brainer.  Any new museum needs to be in our Civic Precinct.

“Creating new and vibrant walkable spaces and a learning experience will not only improve business conditions in our Capital City but will likely encourage further investment in more tourism related services and amenities for everyone to enjoy.

“We have long called for this area to be master planned and revitalised and it is great that MAGNT share our long-term vision. We believe that our Capital City should be the best place in Australia for Aboriginal Art and Defence History and there is no reason as to why it can’t be.

“The Civic Precinct is rich in culture and heritage and currently we are not taking advantage of its full potential.  A master plan for Civic Square is a project that was identified in the Darwin City Centre Master Plan as a priority.

“At the Chief Minister’s Year Ahead function he mentioned the importance of this area and for State Square and Civic Park to open up into a brand new cultural precinct.

“It is welcoming to hear projects like this one progressing, however, this project must be a high priority for the Gunner Government.  We need to see the design and community consultation stage of this project commence immediately.”
